This weekend I received a wonderful “surprise”! My wife and Mother gave me a great “surprise birthday party”. As I said in part one of Blessings of Old Age, I just turned 40, and so my wonderful wife and my wonderful mother got together and gave me a great party. A lot of my extended family was there, some made very long trips just to attend, like my cousin Brack and his sweet wife Donna and their little girl Hannah who drove about 5 hours round trip just for my party. Thanks so much for your great effort. My cousin Bryan came even though he was on call that night with the Transylvania EMS. Everyone got a big kick of him pulling in while driving an ambulance as if he was only there to pickup some broken down old man.
Being the guest of honor I did not get much time to take a lot of photos. I did snag a few and I have included a slide show with this post. Please excuse my taste in music. I may be officially old but I refuse to grow up. Click on the photo below to see the slide show, you may want to turn your speakers down first.
Oh, and some of the photos were items that my mom set out for EVERYONE to see like some of my potty training pictures, and other items that she has for some reason wanted to hang on to. Mom your the greatest
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came to the party. It meant so much to me to see you all. I found out later that the party planners did not invite everyone they would have liked to because my Dad and Mom’s house just could not hold them all. The folks that did come mean the world to me. Each and every one of them has a special place in my heart. I love them all. All in all the real blessing of old age is the people you share your life with. As for those who could not come or who did not get invitations I just want to say I love you all too. My sister had a slide show made for me that chronicled my life with pictures and music. At the end of the slide show was a quote from Abraham Lincoln that states “It’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years!” That is so true. Here is to many more years for all of us!
